Winter Bird
FILM IN PRODUCTION
Over 200 bird species spend their summers in the Yukon, but in the fall, as the bitter cold sets in, all but 20 species flee south. Winter Bird is about the hardy birds that stay behind to face the extreme conditions of Yukon winter.
Winter Bird is the ultimate survival story led by three unlikely characters: Common Raven, Water Ouzel and Spruce Grouse. Surviving the northern winter is no small feat. The astonishing beauty of this snowy wonderland conceals a severe reality where an unprepared bird has no business. Days get short, the light closes in, and the thermometer drops – and then plummets.
Set in the frozen grip of Canada’s northern wilderness, Winter Bird braids the stories of raven, ouzel and grouse, with a supporting cast of birds and mammals from the boreal forest community. This intimate documentary about survival and adaptation celebrates the magic powers of a handful of unforgettable birds in the boreal biome.
