Yukon’s strengths lie in its diversity of wilderness landscapes and its extensive road network. Shooters can find mountains, lakes, rivers and roads in all directions. Whitehorse winters tend to be gentler than Fairbanks and Yellowknife, and it’s an appealing town to explore. But Whitehorse is well south of the auroral band so, while it’s a great destination for a northern adventure that may include the northern lights, a serious aurora chaser will want to use it as a base for explorations further north. Because it’s my home, on an active aurora night I don’t need to go far, like this wild night near Kusawa Lake.
